Have any of you ever used iHTML? I have a partner that swears by it and wants me to switch over, but I'm standing behind my beloved PHP. I was just wondering if anybody has any experience with iHTML and PHP and can offer opinions.

ihtml could mean server side includes or it could be phplib templates...by default phplib uses .ihtml extensions.

If your partner is promoting the use of templates, DEFINATLY use them.

Yup, that's the one. I read about it and I don't see what the big deal is. I'm myself am happy with PHP.

It looks, with very little investigation, like a poor ColdFusion wannabe.

If you design it correctly, I think you'll find php apps easier to write, read, and maintain. ihtml seems to be fatally flawed as it may require you to embed the code in the html. Using templates with php, you can avoid this.

iHTML it self is just a poor mans php - with closed development it always has problems. the e-comm platform they wrote with it is OK, I'de just have written it in php from scratch but....

As php4 seem to use .ihtml as an extension and so does ihtml there are issues of trying to use both at on the same server.

php4 can use any extension you want. .ihtml is the phplib template default extension but it does not need to be parsed to the php module. Personally, my .ihtml pages are shown as strait html pages with no parsing.

I use it and the worst thing is that it is not so widespread as PHP, also the different versions cost to much for your own server.
If you can find a resonably priced hosting server which has the enterprise edition on, you can do a lot with iHTML. A command like "i_include" will include any more complex code into your document when executed.
I find it to work fast with Access Databases.
It gives me a kind of servercontrol which my hosting company has turned off in PHP.

So I am quite happy, since it seams it's easier than PHP to use and learn.
