quoted parsing

with some scripted languages, with text in double quotes, it takes longer to parse than if the text was single quoted due to the fact that the parser is looking for things to substitute.. there is no substitution in single quotes. Is this true for php as well?

php doesn't replace variables and escape characters that are in single quotes.

you probably won't notice a huge performance benefit when using single quotes. it might be interesting to run a test to see how much it really matters.
