PEAR - What am I missing?

Hi.

I've just had a look at one of the articles in PHPBuilder regarding database abstraction with PEAR's DB.

I understand the principle. Very good!

But.

I cannot get the PEAR DB working at all.

Zippo. Zilch. Nill!

I use the MySQL example and all is well, which means I have PHP and MySQL working fine.

According to the install-pear.txt file, the installation of PEAR that I get when I unzip PHP is incomplete and I need to run ...

make install-su

I am running on (here comes the bit where you all laugh, but PLEASE come back and answer this!) Windows 98SE.

My server is Sambar Server V5.0. I am using PHP via ISAPI, and as I said earlier, the php files are being read and processed OK.

But I'm getting nothing out when I use PEAR DB.

I noticed that some of the files have a .in extension AFTER the .php.

Ideas/suggestions would be recommended.

Does anyone out there use PEAR's DB (reminds me of Pear's Soap that does!).

Comments on that too please.

Try downloading Cygwin from Redhat(http://sources.redhat.com/cygwin/). It creates a UNIX command shell that will allow you to use UNIX "make" commands, and results in compiled .exe files for Windows.

Very useful for porting UNIX utilities to Windows.

The included instructions are fairly easy to understand.
