Executing another PHP program from one

I know this is probably a simple question but the answer is escaping me right now. I have a screen where users can update a record. If they check a certain box and press the update button, it calls the update program -- (this program updates the record and displays the modified data). Within the Update program I want to put code to see if the box has been checked. If it has been checked I want to execute another PHP program that enables that sends a custom email message. The program shows a screen that allows them to enter a shbject and custom message. If I use the include option, it puts it on the Updated information page. When I press the button to send the email. It tries to run the update record program again and gives me an error message. What can I do so the custom email program shows the form on a new page and allows the email to be sent? The user wants to be able to push the update button and send the custom email in the same thread. He does not want to email or update the record. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

In general, there are several ways of separating functionality. You can conditionally include. You can conditionally execute. You can build your components in separate files and use a redirect to send arguments along:
