' page generation time '

I am extremely new to PHP, any help that anybody can lend is greatly appreciated.

On a few PHP pages I have noticed a spot were the time it took to generate a page was printed in milliseconds...

I was wondering how that was accomplished?

If that is an easy question, then you can look forward to some more easy/stupid questions from me...

That is extremely easy.

$start_time=microtime();

do the page

$end_time=microtime();

$a=split(' ',$start_time.' '.$end_time);
echo round(($a[2]+$a[3])-($a[0]+$a[1]),5);

that's in seconds, multiply by 1000 to get milliseconds.

Caution: microtime() doesn't work reliably on some platforms including Windows. Everything was looking great on one of my sites until I noticed that the page generation times were negative. "Page generated in -0.00214" How about that for a fast microprocessor! :-)
