Text Editor Recommendations?

I have been checking out a lot of different text editors lately and so far, the two I like best for editing PHP code (BBEdit and Pepper) are both available onlly for Mac OS and Mac OS X, but I want one for Windows too. TextPad seems good in general, but not very good for PHP, UltraEdit also seems to be good in general, but not very good for PHP, and EditPlus seems pretty good, but lacking a bit. Does anyone have any other recommendations or even any suggestions for improving the suitability of the programs I mentioned with regard to PHP?

I use EditPlus more than any other application on my computer. I use it to code C, C++, PHP, and perl. I can't say enough, it was the best $20 I ever spent.

I've been using Homesite for ASP and PHP development. It's a great program.

UltraEdit by far... It is totally customizable in regards to PHP.

How is it not good for PHP? The reason I ask is because I have cusomized my version by manually editing the file that holds all the info for syntax highlighting.

The file name is WORDFILE.txt and is located in the same place as the exe file.

I've added custom functions and classes to have it's own color. Classes have their own color as well.

Textpad offers very basic syntax highlighting from what I can tell. I haven't explored the program fully though.

As for the other prog's mentioned... can't help you there 😉

Is there any editors out there that act as Dreamweaver does with the interface to work in preview mode while you design, but won't mess up php coding?

I design html and php together and would like to do it all in a program similar to Dreamweaver without using both Dreamweaver and Notepad.

Nedit's got great syntax highlighting- for php, html, css, sql, etc.
Its got macros.
its web site has heaps of download add-ons.
Versions for Linux and Win.

Ditto... you can download most peoples premade configs off the net. I love my Ultraedit. Feels as fast as Notepad with almost all the features I'd want.

And get HTML Kit Editor full syntax and colour coding for PHP CSS Javascript plus additional plugins (last time I looked nearly 100)

Excellent prog with built in html preview tab as well as option to preview in browser.

Homesite! I've been using homesite forever and love it. It's got(tabbed on the browser window)

-edit (code view)
-browse (pick a browser to preview)
-design (like dreamweaver, doesn't touch php code)

also (at least in 4.5) has PHP highlighting. It is also integrated with dreamweaver if you want to use them both together(macromedia acutally merged with allaire not too long ago)

Ultraedit32 is the best text/hex editor for Windows... at least in my opinion... its at www.ultraedit.com ... Good for html/php and anything else you want to edit... It has right click support so you can open files that are otherwise associated and so on... Give it a try...
