How to find size of directory

Hello,
Can any one suggest a method to find the directory size using php. If i add all the file sizes in that folder(or sub folder) this differs from the value obtained by using linux system command "du -k" why it is do. Please clarify this doubt and help me.

The difference is because bytes differ from MegaBytes and kilobytes.
You may want to try 'string system (string command [, int return_var])'
