limit of PHP.

There isn't really anything PHP can't do that another scripting language can.

And if you need functionality, you can always talk to your local C programmer about adding it (I wrote some custom modules myself).

$100s may be too ambitious...try $20s and work up from there.

The real limits of PHP have more to do with where it's positioned--i.e. as a server-side scripting language, it can't interact with the user at the browser (though of course it can send any Javascript you like as part of the pages it generates.) This is just as true of Perl, Python, VBScript, or anything else you might use as a server-side scripting language.

Having just played a terrific game of football written in javascript, I couldn't agree more...the client-side is the best place for game-like interactivity. But before I discovered PHP, I wrote javascript for several years, and as we all know js and PHP cooperate well together and go a very long way toward erasing each other's "weaknesses."
(And after spending a year with ColdFusion4, PHP looks like a giant.)

PHP is not well suited to deskto development. While it is possible to do with some beta gtk+ code, it's not a good solution for stand alone apps.

Chris, using a loop will produce your hundreds a lot faster. Also, just define a constant for the bill value and adjust that up once you've got $1's going.
