Getting the requested domain

Hey All!

I'm porting some code to PHP from a different language and one thing that I cannot find no matter how hard I look is some way to get the domain (or URL) that was requested for the page.

The reason I need to know the domain is we're looking to use one set of files for multiple domains, however, each domain has some domain specific information that we need to track (ie. what database to use, etc) so I need to differentiate between each.

Any ideas?

Look at the contents of $SERVER_NAME. If you want the entire URL, you need to also append $REQUEST_URI.

In one sense, this is an RTFM, but sometimes it's hard to know where in the manual to look. One of the shortcomings of the PHP manual is the lack of a decent index, though the search function at PHP.NET seems adequate to me most of the time. At any rate, regarding your question, the relevant information is in the manual section "Variables/Predefined Variables".

I HAVE read the manual (fully through at least once), in fact I'd been reading it for about an hour and a half (in downloaded PDF format) before I posted.

SERVER_NAME is so obviously the same thing as DOMAIN NAME that any half-wit should be able to figure it out.

As well, the php.net site was down this morning and I kept getting a server cannot be found error which made the site real easy to search.

You seem to know a lot so why not RTF politeness manual and not act like such an arrogant prick when you help people? After all, this is the help forum right?
