What should I learn on

I currently have a website http://skinshack.counter-strike.com, at the minute its all done in HTML, which is bad, what I want to do is build up a database of all the pages, and reviews of each of the files on the site, sort of like a shopping cart or sorts.

What sort of areas should i concentrate on as i am starting to learn PHP.

Any pointers to code, etc.. ideas or suggestions would be greatfully recieved. many thanks

If you don't have a programming background, at least start with the basic concepts of programming. But if you have experience programming I think you should consider first studying the basic of php like the variables, operators, functions, statements under php. Also start with a plain text file first before going to php database, coz you need also to learn mysql statements before going to php database.

I agree with Elvin. If you have programming experience especially in C and Perl, it's fairly easy to pick up PHP. Bus if you don't have any programming experience, I would suggest reading up some books such as Beginning PHP from Wrox Press or PHP Fast and Easy by Julie Meloni.

Julie's book is pretty good for a beginner and it covers lots of important PHP stuff, including simple login authentication and session. Check out her site at http://www.thickbook.com/.

As for database book, MySQL by Paul DuBois is the best. He covers a lot of important thing about MySQL.
