mail has been sent?

Hi!

I really need to know how can one be sure whether the mail has been sent at all (with mail() funtion).

I need this because I have a large mailing list and I want to know to which addresses the mail has been sent or not in case of script breaking (eg. lack of electricity or someone shutdown the server) while the script is executing.

If you keep all the mailinglist subscribers in database then add collumn called 'mail_sent' and after you have mailed to each e-mail mark 'mail-sent' as 1. If the e-mail is incorrect or mailserver responsible for e-mail delivery is down You will get a e-mail notification from mailserver that the message can not be delivered. These messages could be processed automaticly too.

How does the mail server knows where to send e-mail notification that the message could not be delivered?

In the mail function (headers part) I used "\nErrors-To: ...", put some stupid address (eg. name@domain), but nothing happened. What did I do wrong?

The main problem is you are looking for an answer in the wrong place. The PHP code is not the better way to look for errors in sending messages with a mailing list. That's the work of the own mailing list program. I don't know what type of mailing list program you are using, but Majordomo, Mailing List Manager, ListServ and several more programs can help you greatly with this problem. All of them can bounce the wrong messages to the desire email address. Just check the manual of those programs to know how (sorry, the answer to this is sometimes very long).
