htaccess

My question relates to enabling htaccess on my linux red hat server.

I have a script being written which required htaccess authentication, however when I load up a simple htaccess file as a test which denies access to all it dies not work.

The person writing the script says I need to make sure that htaccess in enabled on the server...How do I enable htaccess on the server?

I have been searching online for answers, but am unable to find anything which explains the process of enabling the htaccess. Perhaps I am using the incorrect phrase in my searches and this is called something besides 'enabling htaccess'

Any help would be appreciated.

check your httpd.conf file for this line:

AccessFileName .htaccess

that is the magic.
