PHPLib vs PHP4.0

Hi,
I'm sure that answer for my question is somewhere in the NET, but I can't find it!

I want to know what is the relation between PHPLib and the PHP4.0. There is a version of PHPLib for PHP3, but none fore PHP4. On the other hand the PHP4 has buillt in functions for session handling, but lacks data abstraction layer and HTML templates. Is there soething like PHPLib for PHP4? or maybe I can use PHPLib with PHP4?

as far as I understand it the PHPLib is for both. PHP4 has session handling functions but the PHPLib's are a little more complex and operate differently.

I don't know why they make it sound like an outdated set of classes, they should update the documentation so that peopæe don't get confused.

Got a related question...

Reading the manual for phplib 7.2 gave me the impression that phplib shouldn't be deployed with php4, since the latter is in beta. Excuse a newbie, but isn't php4 stable? How about php4.0.4?

Assuming that it works well with php4, would any of you experienced programmers recommend using phplib instead of built-in session support in php4? How about user authentication? Would it be reasonably easy to achieve an equally secure solution just using php4?

I'm using php4.0.4 to publish a MySQL db on LINUX.

Thanks for answering. The official description of the PHPLib 3.0 is endeed confusing.
Aren\'t there any incompatibilities? I know that some of the functions of PHP4 differ from version 3.
