text format in MySQL

Hello.
Let's say i have this text:
"hello.
my name is aggelos.
i am from greece." and i post in mysql field.
when i try to retrieve it ,propably because it's a string and there is not set any <br> or '&nbsp' when i set it prints out with the folowing format.
"hello.my name is aggelos.i am from greece."

So i can't have a normal text output with spaces more than one and with changing paragraphs.

Does anyone know a way how to solve my problem.

i though that i could replace the string " " whith 'nbsp'.but i don;t know a way how to say 'new paragraph'

Try using nl2br before you save into the database

also convert multiple spaces to act right like this:

$data = str_replace(" ", "  ", $data);

(if it doesnt show here in the forum, the first parameter is two spaces

Another method would be to replace the whitespaces like chr(20) with a <br>
and store them in the DB.

bah, nevermind.

nl2br(str_replace(" ","&_nbsp;",$str));

Make sure to remove the underscore between the '&' and the 'nbsp'.

$data = preg_replace("  ", "&nbsp;", $data);

Are you sure it will work with just a space?
I would use the appropriate character (30 + 20 or so).

But then the question will be wheter str_replace will do it...

i didn't understand how it is being expressed in code when i press enter.

When a press space-bar i know that it is nbsp
when i press enter???
and how can i see in a text 'right here he pressed enter' ???

If your question is "how are carriage returns expressed in HTML", the answer is, of course, <BR>. To simulate a carriage return in plain text, use \n
