Does someone know if the function mail() can give an conflict on php 4.0.4 sp1 & apache 1.3? all the config files are ok and only the mail function is not working... some stats:

As far as I'm aware, you need Sendmail; so I don't think mail() works on Windows 2000.
I reserve the right to be spectacularly wrong, though.

mail() returns true if PHP has executed the function correctly. It true is returned and you still find that mail has not gone, I think like James said, you require a mailserver to be loaded.

Tnx for the solutions; The problem was that the script indeed returned FALSE because the mailserver wassen't correctly in the php.ini file; the server have to be defined with an hostname and not with an ip adres!
