Excel saving over the internet

Quick question..

If I have an excel spreadsheet, and store it on my web server on the internet, is it possible to allow people to modify it and save it back to the site?

Basically some friends of mine want to put this spreadsheet on the net so a couple of them can access it and modify/save it.. (It'll be secured via http authentication)

I've put a test excel spreadsheet on one of my domains, and can access it via IE and modify it, but it only seems willing to save a copy locally, not back to the site...

Is it possible to do this? I don't really want to spend time writing CGI or PHP code to do a proper booking system for them if I can just get their existing spreadsheet online.

Yeah, but..

If person A is modifying it when person B decides to upload it (having made mods), then person A uploads it, the first upload (from person 😎 is over written, and all their changes go...

So I'd have to write code for locking the file and so forth and that means doing work!

Just want to be able to write the file back, and let excel/IE handle the sharing/locking issues.. Hoped there was an option/setting I was overlooking.. :-)

I know that in Excel you can share spreadsheets. Choose Tools, then Share Workbook. Perhaps this is your ticket?
