PHP Encoding?

Hi,

In asp there is a (simple) method of encoding the .asp files so an ordinary user won't understand the source-code (there are decoders, but oke....)

I know Zend Encoder does this job too, but the price of the software is quite high. Is there an alternative to this encoding problem? It doesn't have to be rock-solid encoding, I don't care if there is a decoder available. It is to prevent an ordinary user to read the code, just to scare him off just like aspencode. ;-)

Someone else suggested this earlier, write a quick script that will convert all newlines or crlf combinations to spaces. this should make it completely unreadable and be a simple script to implement. Just make a backup first :-)
