PHP3 vs PHP4

This question might be a little stupid but...
why would some people be using php3 instead of php4. i know that some scripts would need to be changed.. but i would figure that the speed gain would be worth it. i see some posts on here and it seems that people are still doing new development in php3.

Because many many people use hosting services that still only support php3. It's not exactly a choice for every user.

If people codded correctly in the first place, moving to php4 is painless. People still use php3 because their code is too screwed up to use php4.

I know this from experience. A company I worked at for a VERY short time had such bad PHP code that I doubt they will ever move to php4.
