mcrypt configuration

Hey folk,

I already have PHP4 set up as a module of Apache. The thing I won't to do now is add mcrypt functionality. I know I need to ./configure --with-mcrypt=DIR; make;make install. But do I have to reconfigure apache also? It seems like a pain in the a#$. Or is there a simpler, easier way of doing this?
