phplib with php4?

Hello all!

I just got finished reading the article about custom sessions using phplib. It looked as though the article was written before php4 was released.

Is it still recommended to use phplib for sessions since php4 has it built-in?

Is there an alternative to the authentication functionality in php4 that phplib provides?

Is there an alternative to the database abstraction in php4 that phplib provides?

phplib has merged with PEAR, so that would be your db abstraction, but I'm not sure if PEAR has authentication stuff.

phplib has abstracted the session handlers so it's possible to write a new session handler to use php4's sessions while interfacing with them in normal phplib style.
