Sending SMS with PHP ??

Hello,

I am searching for code examples to send SMS messages from a website to gsm telephones in different countries. I found a lot but nothing works, can somebody give me a hint in which direction I can start ?

Presumably you know that you need a GSM modem or to permanently connect your phone ?

I will get my adsl connection in a month and then I want to give people access threw a website to the sms service.

I hope someone can help me ? at least say to me where I can start to search

Hello,

Tobe able to send SMS you have to have access to the infrastructure of an operator who will send the SMS to a mobile phone. This can be done via a direct connection to an operator which is useally VERY expensive or via a company that has the connections in place and provides cheap ways to submit SMS. Most websites that provide "free" SMS pay themselves for the SMS and use the means explained above. I don't think it'll be easy todo what you want because SMS is not something you can do for free.

I'm working for a company that provides the cheaper ways. We sent around 16 million SMS/day over Germany, Benelux countries, and other places in Europe.

There's no such thing as free. You can try searching for sms gateways but to my knowledge there are no free outlets. The long and short of it is that GMS providers charge for traffic so someone has to pay.

As other have pointed out, there is no way to send SMS for free. Someone always pays for them. But there is a free SMS/WAP gateway, called kannel. http://www.kannel.org Now all you need is A) a connection to operator's SMSC or 😎 GSM modem that will send the messages. For prices you have to contact your local operator, since every operator is free to price the messages as they please. In Finland typical price for 1 sms is between $0.05 and $0.20 sent from GSM modem/phone.

You may try something else: If you want to have people sending SMS to yourself, you may try to "kidnap" any of the free SMS Gateways. But this I mean the following:

You search for a Gateway in use, and try to find out, how they send messages, and how they use temp ID's to protect them.
You write a HTTP layer using and reacting this Gateway to send SMS.
You allow SMS to be senden only to yourself. This for two reasons: First highjacking the Gateway may be seen, or is in fact, illegal. If you reduce the service down to a messaging method for yourself by your friends, you may get away. Using the service in such a way, provides also hits to the Gateway provider, which means his ads get more hits. Just to keep remembered. And of course you may be tracked, because there may be more hits from a single address (your site) than normal.

A GSM modem is indeed a solution, but could become very expensive for yourself, very quickly - I guess it depends on the amount of SMS you sent out. The price for a single SMS here is around 0.2 Euro for "normal" users.

A connection to an operator is not a solution for someone wanting to send SMS of his laptop - at least not here in .BE :-) - way to expensive.

Just to let you all know... WapIT, the company who is in charge of the gateway has filed for bankrupsy.
What the future holds for Kannel is hard to tell, but the developers themselves want to continue with the development, but it will be at a slower pace now.

It still works though and is a very nice tool to use together with PHP. You can initialize a script when an SMS arrives and send messages just as easy.
I works with the Nokia 7110 as SMSC aswell...

it can be free to send sms.
you need to know if the opertor provides sending sms via web.
If so you just need to send your data to their web via sockets.
check the php manual on fsockopen !
