MySQL error: lost conn. to server???

hi,

i friend of mine told me, that he always gets these error messages, when surfing his site!
First he gets an error message, but after a "refresh" the page just looks normal and the content is displayed just perfect, too!

So, how could such an error occur?
...or could the server cause such an error?
(too much traffic, or s.th. like that??)

mysql error: Lost connection to MySQL server during query
mysql error number: 2013
