To crop an image in php

I have a question. I know there is an anwser, but I have not been able to find it.
How to crop an image (jpg and gif) in php? Either an image when uploading, or an image already on the server.
The script I am looking for, can be like this: (An example in cgi)

Is there anybody who can give me the anwser or/and the script ??

Ive been trying to get the answer to this for quite some time and still dont have much of an answer.. I found something here:

but in the article it says you could do it with imagecopyresized! I would love to know how to do it with that function. The function code in that page I mentioned is a bit ummm. foreign to me cause im new at PHP.
