Modified date of a dir..??

Hiya guys:

If you have a second - ponder over this one: I want to find out the modification date of a directory on my remore server.

If fileX is updated in dirY - how can I use php to get the last modified date of dirY??

Is there not a predefined PHP variable or function to do this? After
all - if you look at someone's directory tree when they have no
index.html file in there, the icon of the directory shows alongside a
date of when it was last modified....

How on earth is that done?

Did you try filectime ? That might work. Depends on your file system or OS too. Some systems won't update the directory time just because one file within it changed.

I just checked the manual and it says:
int filectime (string filename)

"Returns the time the file was last changed, or false in case of an error. The time is returned as a Unix timestamp. "

Are we talking about a file modification function? Is it possible to get it to return dir modification info?

I want to access this info from a php script which sits on a RH Linux machine (Same machine I wish to obtain data about)

What do you think?
