mail() and Exchange Server questions

I am trying to send mail externally from my SMTP server(exchange 2000) using mail() function.

I have no problem if I send to a internal address ([e-mail]), however if I try to sent to a external address ([e-mail]) I recieve Warning: Server Error, do I need to authinicate to the exchange server who I am so I can send external e-mail, or is this a different problem?

I am having this exact problem with the same setup you seem to have. I have not discovered why this happens though. If you have received a fix I would greatly appreciate if you emailed me with the solution. Thank you, Joe

Hello!
We have solved the problem.... The problem wasn't in the php nor itn the server configuration, but the Exchange itself... The Open relay, as it is called, allows scripts to run from the other machines too, but if you close that, the only place, that will allow you execute the server scripts, is the server itself, or not even that...

The open relay must be set for the servver machine to mail function to work, I couldn't find other solutions...
