starting up applications on linux

i want php to execute some program, but the problem is that this data is from another user then the "nobody" user where the httpd runs on. can this be somewhat changed so that i can start the application with php?

If I was in your shoes I wouldn't mess with it.

Sometimes, (sadly I don't know if this can apply to your case) it is better that PHP sets up a "trigger" somewhere (a file, a database entry) and you let a daemon do the job.

The problem with it is that you should write the program.
