include() ???

hi,

i need to include some files and so i tried the include() command, BUT it only works within its own directory.
include("test.ssi"); just works fine, but
include("http://www.my-test-server.com/test/test.ssi"); wont work!

...although it should work, because it even stands in the manual!

so, what am i doing wrong?

First, is the file your including in your local file system. If so you do not want to do a include("http://....."); because your script will be slow, instead specify the path on the file system.

ie : include("../x/y/test.ssi");

you may try the relative path.
e.g: include("../test/test.ssi");

...could W2k be causing a problem?

i always get this message:
"Warning: Failed opening 'includes/test.ssi' for inclusion (include_path='') in C:/Xitami/webpages/fb1/Copy of vorlage-normal.php on line 51"

...i dont know, why it wont accept it!

No, because I am using Xitami on W2K. Are you sure you have the spelling correct?? I've never tried the "http://..." method. I use the "../includes/header.php" style. I know that you can't get back to the main directory that easily like HTML does. "/includes/" in HTML points to a completely different place than "/includes/" in PHP.

...and i'm going to try that out, with the "../" path!

BUT ... even in the manual appears the include() command in this form include("http://..."); !! ...but it wont work!

why does it always say "inclusion (include_path='')" ???
include_path doesnt even exist! neither as a command nor as a variable!

...or could it the cause of my problem be the server?
...do i have to do s.th. before i can include a file?

...i mean, i know what to do in order to include files in "normal" shtml files, but maybe i have to change s.th.??!!

anyway, does the include("http://..."); command work on your server?
it doesnt matter, if the include file is on the same server or on another!

hey, i cant write the word @!#$ here... lol, cool!

so anyway, i just tried it on a unix server... and guess what!?? it works!

thats really strange, that "http://" is somehow else interpreted on MS-OS!

...but my good luck... the server, where it is needed is a unix machine 😉
