What is PHP 4 "CVS" only ?

Hello.

I need to use Multi-byte string functions, but they seem to not work. In the online manual of PHP(on www.php.net), there are description about these functions, and it sais they are "PHP4 CVS only". I use PHP4, but I don't know what CVS is. My php4 is not CVS? So, they don't work well?? Or, there is another reason about it?

CVS is "Current Version System" which is a program that lets you fetch the latest sourcecodes from the developers. That way you can get 'unreleased' versions of the software. Unreleased means: use at your own risk, may explode and melt your brain.

They mean that the functions are only available in the version of PHP that is currently in the Concurrent Version System. Typically this means that the functions are in the process of being added and tested. You have two choices here. Download and install a CVS client, log in to the CVS server for PHP and download the source code and compile it yourself (with the understanding that this version of the source is not considered stable yet) - OR - wait until the next version becomes available.
