PHP web email solution

Hi there,

I'm about to embark on an ambitiuos project and I wanted to know if there are any PHP based web email solutions (GPL) available on the net. I need the really good ones and the completely free ones.

And if there aren't any how do you make one?

I have tried Squirrelmail but something seems to be wrong. I've tried a lot with that package but i haven't been able to make it work.

What I need is something other than Squirrelmail.
