Simple Java Scipt problem need help.

I know here is not the place for me to ask but i couldn't find any good place to ask my java script question. If you know some, please let me know, thanks.

My Question is:

I'm working on a form. This form has a text field. Because there are some pre-defined text available, so i created a link beside the text field, which will pop up a small windows, list all the possible value for this field.

When the User choose one of the value from the small popup windows, the popup windows will close, and the value will bring to the opriginal windows and fill up the text field in the form.

I'm trying to work it out.. but document objects is only for our current windows, not for another windows. I get stuck here.. can't pass value to another windows(the original windows) after open the popup.

You're right this isn't the place, but I happen to have been working on something like this reciently so here is what I have, that popups a window with a clickable imagemap of colors and then returns the HEX of the color to the form.

So the closeWindow function populates the parent window's form element (if the form is named edit) and the element's name matches the windows name which was passed to the open window function. The form in the popup is called "choosecolor" and the element is called "color".

i've use your function to make one ffor my own. because i heavily use this function, so i bring the value of form name and field name, then i dod not need to write many function for each field that i do the same thing. but i found that in Java, the object can not replace with variable, then how could i write a dynamic function huh?

Try using the eval() function. I've used it in the past something like this:

function select(val, form_name, field_name){

whereTo = eval('window.opener.document.' + form_name + '.' + field_name);
whereTo.value = val;
parent.close();

}
