how to auto-display index.php

Hi,

I have a question I am thinking about since starting with php. This is:

How can I manage to display index.php automatically without giving its name in the adress field of the browser? Is there a way of doing this without redirection inside an index.html?
I tried on both, Win and Linux systems with NS and IE, but they don't seem to recognize the php-files automatically

I would really like to hear your thoughts about it!

modify your directory index in httpd.conf like the following

<IfModule mod_dir.c>
DirectoryIndex index.html index.php
</IfModule>

If you do not have access to the main configuration of the webserver you can also put...

DirectoryIndex index.php

...in a file called .htaccess in your web root, if your server setup allows such files.
