Russell,
I hate to say this, but chances are you are posting this stuff in the wrong place to look for a job on the web... If you really want to find a job through PHPbuilder.com, you may as well fill out a profile, but I don't think that's the best way either. Try a website that is made for people trying to find coders, like monster.com or hotjobs, or any of a dozen other. PHP builder does not have the search capabilities available for potential employers to find people based on their profiles on PHPbuilder.com.
I'm also sorry that it seems you may have a chip on your shoulder. I understand that this field of work is tough right now. I'm in it and frequently see people I graduated with making twice what I do and enjoying it. But like I said before, I would bet the majority of your negative responses to your post were because in general, anything posted in the phpbuilder forums besides requests for help and the subsequent help are usually met with responses that spam email would receive -- negative, sarcastic, and unnecessary.
Look around the forums and see what happens when someone posts a "Get rich quick" or "Make money now". Instead of just ignoring the post and moving on they often elicit some of the most responses of any thread saying why the post is illegal or unwanted, etc.
I believe Neuromancer's response to your post was based on the above. If I were a potential employer who wanted to find a skilled PHP coder, searching through the General Help forum of PHP builder would not be my first method of reaching people. If I were to even try that route at all, I would probably be looking at the responses to developer questions and finding ones that were correct, concise and the most helpful.
Neuromancer's post though, for your part, should either have been ignored, or politely responded to. While I believe you did a good job, you did more or less stoop to name calling and assumptions. That makes your response no better.
I also think at least initially that I probably had some of the same thoughts when I saw your post in this forum. I, like Nick, wanted to see why Neuromancer had said your skills were weak, so I visited the site you posted in your original message. My comment was based on the fact that when I looked at the site, navigation was, again, in my opinion, broken. The only way to get around the site was the little red arrows at the bottom. The side bars did not work. Also, nothing I saw there indicated that any PHP would have been necessary, but please feel free to correct me. I only hit the right arrow until it seemed to loop back to the first page.
Anyway, I wish you the best of luck in searching for a new job or contract. Hopefully everyone can put away all the asbestos for awhile.
Dave
