MySQL + PHP Upgrade Help!!

I'm currently running MySQL 3.23.x and PHP 4.0.x on the Red Hat Linux 6.1

If I want to upgrade MySQL and PHP to the latest version, do I just re-install the software according to the INSTALL file as a brand new installation?

Or do I need to uninstall the old versions first?

I'm not familiar with this sort of upgrade, I can't find documentation related to UPGRADE procedure.

Is there some related information available on the web?

When it comes to PHP the answer is yes. As for MySQL I'm not sure what you may have to do to make sure that the new version knows where to find the databases, but it should be just as simple.
