include path problem...?

Hi guys,
I'm setting up on RedHat and have found that the 'include path' is .:/usr/share/php

I'm having trouble including my includes (..er)

I've moved a Directory called 'includes' into /usr/share/php and am trying to access it like this:

include("/includes/test.php");
and other variations to no avail.

Can someone please point out what's wrong?

Well.. just because something says includes doesnt mean that that where the include files for php should go.
You do not need to look for a includes directory, rather you need to look for your base web directory:
(default /var/www/html) then you can put your includes in this directory if you wish or make a directory includes in this directory. All includes does is import a file. So as you have it set up right now... includes is looking for a directory /includes/test.php . That means it goes to the root directory / (the actual root directory) and looks for a directory called /includes. The only directories I have at that level are like /etc and /dev and stuff like that. You need to place your includes somewhere in you web directory.

The include_path has been set to /usr/share/php in the php.ini

try your include like this:

include("./includes/test.php");

the way you state makes the function look in the root directory for a directory named includes, which i doubt is there.
