ANY Software to monitor upload status

Browsing this forum I recognized that there is definitely no way in PHP to monitor the upload status of files, not even using Java-Applets.

But I'm quiet sure you could solve the problem using a Software (Maybe some ActiveX thing) to handle the complete upload.

Does anybody know any program or code which is able to handle uploads, show the status and can be included in a PHP-File?

Any help would be appreciated!

www.infomentum.com has AppletFile. This is a neat application that allows the user to see the status of the upload.

It's Java-based and does other neat things like compress before uploading so that time is saved.
