Need basic File I/O help

Hi, i've just started mucking around with PHP today and I need to ask someone something. I'm trying to work out basic file I/O with PHP. For example:

Lets say someone hits my website. I want to write the line, "You had a visitor." to an empty file (that i've already created) when that person hits my site.

Can someone tell me how to do this? Call me stupid but i've been trying to work this out for a while now....

Ofcourse you read the manual about the filesystem functions such as fopen and fputs, fwrite etc?

I have read several of your replies vincent, they always seem to be rtfm, not very helpful, and the attitude you use sucks.

With that said vincent is correct, these things are easy to do and documented fairly well in the manual. Read through it and try to write some code, if it doesn't work, come back and post your code and question about it, with your error messages. PS. make sure you have the permissions set correctly on the file you wish to write to.

well, just a note to moonie that people asking for someone to give them a script, rather than reading the manual and asking questions about how things work and are done do get a bit irritating

I do agree, and understand the above, I help in the Linux NG's quite a bit and the same happens there. But we should still gently guide the newbies, not slam them, even if the same question has been asked many times.

I do appologise to you vincent, I shouldn't have slammed you the way I did, but please be patient with the newbies, point them to the answer in the manual, that is much more helpful than rtfm.
