Netcat and apache+PHP?

In my PHP script, I'm running netcat (nc) to get some information from a site. But when I run the script as an apache module, it doesn't work. NC doesn't output anything at all. It works, however, when I'm running it as a CGI binary. I would really want it to work with both!

Any solutions?

The pathnames are absolute, so it's not that.

Permissions perhaps? Sometimes it might be useful to temporarily enable logins from 'nobody' and try it from the command line logged in as 'nobody'.

what is your setup? eg win98 php 4.0.4, solaris 5.8 php 4.0.6, linux....

the module and executable work very strangly in win32 still, so if that is your environment, you are just going to have to deal with it.

i have reported many bugs using win98 (my old development server) and they told me that the bug was me using win98 and didn't really care. not that the developers are assholes or anything, but it is probably a php bug that isn't going to get fixed any time soon.
