Script executing all the time

I'm new to the world of PHP and I'm trying to get a php script to execute continously without having to manually call the the script. Is this possible?? If so, how is it done??

Before going any further; what do you want to achieve?

It can be done (I've done it a few times myself) but usually shouldn't. The few scripts that I do run constantly are set to bomb out at a given time and then cronned to restart five minutes later.

This kind of thing can go horribly horribly wrong, however. So you have to be sure you need to before you do it.

I want to execute a MySQL query every three hours and the only way I can think of is to have the script contiunously running ....

That kind of thing is best done in a cron job.

What's a 'cron' job? Is it a script? Is it easy to write?

A cron job is a Unix thing, allowing you to schedule events (such as executing a script).

I'm no Unix guru, you may want to talk to one.
