"anti-aliased" GD text

I am currently using the imagettftext functions to display text on dynamic images (PHP is compiled with the GD library).

One thing troubles me, though; the text is "blurred" - I suppose that this is a kind of anti-aliasing, but I would rather have it display a sharp, "untouched" text.

Could this be solved in any way, or is the GD/Freetype library just not capable of displaying the text in a better quality?

Did you solved that problem? I have the same one and I don't know where to enable anti-aliasing in the GD-Library

Too bad that nobody added a solution to this, yet.

The php manual states to supply a negative color index to switch off anti-aliasing, but it does not work on my php4.0.6 installation.
