Session problem

I am trying to use sessions in PHP for the first time, but I am having a problem.
When I put session_start or session_register in my code I receive the following warning:

Warning: Cannot send session cookie - headers already sent by ...

Can someone tell me what is the problem?

yes, this catches everyone first time.

What you need to do is make sure you session_start, or session_register BEFORE the first tag in your scripts.

e.g

<?
session_start();
?>

<body>
hello!
</body>

[deleted]

Note: the session_start() must be sent before ANYTHING is printed, that includes spaces, newlines etc.
