problem calling function from require().

I have defined a function show_banner() in banners.php

This works:

require("../php/banners.php"); show_banner();

This does't work:
require("http://www.site.com/php/banners.php"); show_banner();

The err msg is like: "call to undefined function". (there is no spell or url mistake all syntax and url 100% correct)

I have no problem using require("http://www.site.com/php/banners.php")
if show_banners() is called from inside of

banners.php which tells me that I have correct settings in php.ini (fopen works like a charm with all urls).Server runs PHP4.

Any help would be appriciated. Thanks.

Rookie mistake.

What will the webserver do what you request this url?

http://www.site.com/php/banners.php

It will EXECUTE the php script, it will NOT send the sourcecode.

php source when required/included using relative pass but
it does NOT send source code when absolute pass it used?
kind of strange. I wish it would be underlined in php documentation.

So what I need to do is to
change extension php to banners.txt and remove php tags. Will try it.
