Make cool graphs without gd?

I need to make groovy graphs and pie charts with php 4.0.6 under Linux 2.2.19, but can't compile and install gd. Is there any way I can make bar graphs and pie charts and stuff still? Can I use image magik or php built in stuff?

It is far easier to just install the GD library.
Make your life easier and get the GD installed.

my sysadmin keeps saying he's having too much trouble getting gd installed. Is there a trick to it or something?

No trick at all, just follow the manual and it's a five minute job.
