PHP4 vs. PHPLIB

OK, from what I can understand in the research I've done, PHPLIB was developed in response to a need for certain functionality that PHP3 was not providing i.e sessions mainly, but also authentication and others.

My question is, now that PHP4 is out the door and pretty mature (in what, v4.06 now?) Is PHPLIB still useful? Does it play nicely with PHP4 and What benefits woudl I see using the sessions funcitons of one vs. the other?

PHPLIB has been merged into PEAR now. PEAR is very mature and if I hadn't been using PHPLIB in my php4 app for the last two years, I'd start switching stuff over.

PHPLIB works fine in php4 but you can improve how it does some things by editing the classes (such as sessions).
