localtime()

Sorry, but I'm really new at this:
I'm trying to obtain the clients current date in the format(day/month/year/) two digits for each.
I'm trying to use this:

$today = localtime ("[date['tm_mday']]");

currently I'm just getting back the word array. Can anyone shed some light here? And thanks to those who pointed me in the right direction, away from javascript : )

I like to use the date() function. You can find the parameters here:

http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.date.php

It's pretty straight-forward, and very flexible.

For your case, you could do this:

$today = date("d/m/y");

thanks for the help but this will give me the servers date, won't it? instead of the clients date.

You need to remember that PHP is executed on SERVER-side, not CLIENT-side.

Neither date() nor localtime() will give you the client's date unless you pass those parameters into the function. The brackets, [ and ], refer to the fact that those parameters are optional and have default values.
