number for time/date??

timedatestamp
i.e. 1 number to represent both the day month year etc.
can this be done? as it's the only method i can think of for ordering topics in a forum list screen... last post by date, but you can only sort the DB by one column, so it'd have to be a number representing both time and date....
larger the number the later on it would be... if im making sense

You want to use a timestamp which is the number of seconds since Jan 1 1970 so knowing that you can figure out the date/time in human readable form.

Take a look at the time() function and friends.
