bind and define in MySQL

I use PHP and OCI at work, but at home, I am learning to use mysql. I am in search of something that would work like OCIDefineByName and OCIBindByName but in MySQL. I've been digging around on the MySQL site, but I am certain it would go by a different name in mysql, and I am unable to find what I am looking for. Can anyone help me, please?

OCIBind and OCIDefine link the column name in a select or insert statement to my php variables. And it saves a lot of time and makes code more efficient.

MySQL is has a very crappy support of SQL. Bind is not supported in any way.
