IP database

Hello people,
I\'m trying to construct an IP database system, however I\'m running into a lot of problems. Does anyone out there know of one that I can use, or can take a look at to get some pointers?

I think your first question should be: what do you want to do with this IP database?

Ok, this database system should be able to store, all the ip addresses, that our company has rights to on the internet, currently a shitload.
The database is supposed to be able to store records of all the ips that are allocated.
Also, the databse is supposed to store information about the machines that has the ip - be it a router, computer etc as well as the services that are attached to the device with the ip. There's more to go, but I think I'll stop for now 😉

Sure, you can do this. Our networking department did the same thing with php and postgresql.

Postgresql is nice because it has a built in IP type that stores IPs with checking to make sure they're valid (i.e. 0 to 255, four times, seperated by dots) and lets you do netmask ops and stuff on them easily.
