Server Side Menus

I'm fairly new to PHP and absolutely love it.

I had done some client side pop-out or branch type menus in Javascript,
which was a little slow being on the client side.

I'm interested in doing this on the server side in PHP.

What is the correct term for this so that I can find it in the help sections?

As a side note, if you know of an exact resource to assist me with this, the URL would be greatly appreciated.
