PHP with GEDCOM?

I've done some searching but haven't found much in the way of this. check out http://www.genealogy.org/~smcgee/genweb/#genweb for some links -and of course you could try a sourceforge search

in my head's grand scheme of things, i going to develop some way to go from gedcom format to Michael Kay's ( http://users.iclway.co.uk/mhkay/ ) GedML using some combination of XSLT and PHP, but it's not high on my todo list. I love to hear any news about what you come up with

Hello, I'm an ignorant peasant just starting to dabble in this stuff, and I was recently asked about creating an online family tree for those of my clan.

They want to be able to import files from various family tree programs, which use a file format called GEDCOM, and match up the various branches where they correlate.

I don't know a lot about that stuff, I'm primarily involved in the graphics end of the web, so I thought I'd ask for any advice I can find. Does anybody know if anyone is developing a PHP family tree site?

We don't want to bother with any of the commercial genealogy sites; they are too big and have too much redundant and/or irrelevant data. We thought it best to start fresh if possible.

Any comments?

have you tried http://www.de-vulpian.com/documents/phpgedcomviewer.htm ? If you know of anything better than this using PHP for doing a family tree I would be very interested.
