Mark as read

I am having a hughe problem with one forum!
Right now it is working with automatic cookie system to mark the read topics - but it is not working properly!
Now comes the question - how could i disable the automatic mark as read system? And how can i add manualy contorolled mark as read?
Any articles or topics somewhere?

I assume you talk about Phorum is that right?

If so, the mark as read functionality is given!! but sometimes on weak browsers, it appears to work not properly as they retrieve the pages out of their chache!

So what you can try is to influence this behaviour by stating some meta tags
or header informations
